Self Portrait week 4

For this weeks portrait, I wanted to work in the snow. We got so much of it that I couldn't let it go to waste! I went out in the snow and played around. I had a cool idea to take photographs of myself throwing a snowball, but when I did it, I didn't think it was that great. So I played around a little bit more and discovered that after I threw a snowball, snow residue would come flying out afterwards, making this really cool mystical effect. I decided to shoot more photos like this and after many failed attempts, I got this amazing shot of the snow all around my face. I had this on a timer, with continuous shooting.

  1. I love this! I went outside in the snow too and was trying to get a similar image. In my case I had a coffee cup and was trying to blur myself in the background. The snow was in focus, which I loved and I love that the snow is blurred in this photo and how the blue background of the sky seems to match your eye make up (If you have any on, maybe its the photo...whatever it is -- it looks good!) The only thing I would try to do differently is tuck in the Columbia tag. But this is very cool!

  2. I love how you set this camera, I didn't think of how I could use my camera as using timer while I was shoveling!! Also, your coat, face, gloves and back ground looks perfectly match with the throwing snow! It looks really good! (Hope you enjoy the snow!! :) )

  3. Thank you Ash! It was really fun to do, but a lot of trial and error. I'm very happy I got the focus on my gloves right! The tone of the colors are purely based off my white balance. I used the florescent glow white balance because I wanted the snow and the sky to blend with eachother.

  4. Very cool perspective and photo! Its has a perfect "winter wonderland" feel. Its funny how great photos come from just messing around until you notice something special. How far away were you from the camera? I would be so afraid of hitting my camera with too much snow or accidentally hitting it and making it fall! The one thing I would change about the photo is maybe taking out the house in the bottom right. It's a little distracting to my eye and with the white, takes away from your pose. Other wise awesome photo!

  5. This picture is great! Your white jacket works really well with the snow. I like the crop and symmetrical feel. It almost has a 3D feel. Your focal area looks good, I can see the subject really well. I hope your camera didn't get wet.

  6. The colors, in this one are PHENOMENAL; definitely my favorite thing about this picture. The way your white jacket and the white pops against the blue in the sky! I also love the motion in your hair, and the snow flying straight towards the lens. Love the perspective.

  7. I love the action going on here. The contrast of colors and the lighting along with the movement of snow towards the lens is great. Love how it really captured the movement, with your hair all sprawled out, arms thrown forward and the snow racing towards the viewer. Great shot, Gwen!
