This week, I wanted to add bright, wild, crazy. I was pacing around the house thinking of an original idea, when it finally hit me. I had been working on a color wheel project and was staring at my acrylic paints. I decided I wanted to go for a tribal look. I wanted to show my wild side, and show just how far I'd go for photography. I manipulated my face to make it look crazy. I painted it red and then added white details all over my face. I didn't want to have the same position as last weeks, so I tried tilting my face so that you can only see one eye. I wanted the photo to feel a little bit uncomfortable, so I cropped the other eye halfway in. I want the viewer to be shocked at the color of my skin. I added a feather to make sure I got the tribal look. I think I would have even danced around outside to get the feel of my attitude if it wasn't so cold. When I edited the shot in photoshop, I played around with the oil paint tool. I just got CS6, so I was excited and played around with new options. I wanted my portrait to be a little abstract, because I think this piece would be very cool to blow up and print on a canvas. I'd like to hang this in my house somewhere. I chose the color red, because in my color class, red is supposed to make the heart beat faster.
Bright and bold and wonderful, Gwen. You are creating tension, yet this has a peaceful quality to it as well. Your expression has a sadness to it so this has a very vulnerable quality to it as well. The crop is great, especially on the right. Think about cropping it even tighter on the top so that nothing distracts from the expression in your eyes.
ReplyDeleteGwen,
ReplyDeleteI really like the composition here. The contrast between the red, white and black(from your eyes) is working. Reminds me of a reverse colored jigsaw mask lol. Uhm if i had to say anything I'd like you to change..well nothing really, but maybe a different angle or something in that direction. Great job, though! And I think you're in everyone one of my classes this semester..lol
ha, hey Carl! Yeah come to think of it, I think we are in the same classes. yay Viscom major! I thought the same thing with jigsaw! You wouldn't believe how much fun it was to do though - the one thing I regret is painting over my eyebrows.. ouch!
Deleteloll yea, sounds like it must've sucked getting off. and woot viscom majors ;-)
DeleteThis photo is amazing. I truly feel a conflict chaos and control because of the crop and the color scheme. I really have nothing to critic about it. Everytime I stare at it to find something to change I lose myself in it. I love the light and the color. keep up the good job.

WOW. Both of your photos are amazing. The content is great. I really like the brush stroke above your eye, and the detail of the mascara you used (both black and white). This photo is really striking and I can't wait to see what else you do.

Love this one Gwen. I think my favorite thing is probably the swirl on your cheek, I'm not too sure why I like it but it's one of the first focal points I see. I think the next thing I love is your eyes. They are like PITCH black, which is pretty rad. It gives you a spooky look. Also I like the catchlight in your eyes. The way this is cropped is pretty great too. I guess it's because the crop is so tight around your face, it gives the photo some tension. Good job !
